IrishShopper.com
This site was set up in 2010 when two business acquaintances living in County Down came together to fill the need for an ever increasing range of Irish made and Irish designed products of all descriptions. We personally visit manufacturers, suppliers, artists and tradesmen from as far away as Dublin, Killarney, Armagh, Down, Galway & Donegal to pick for ourselves quality Irish products to include in our www.irishShopper.com website.
They take orders from 44 countries and look forward to serving those interested in Irish products wherever they live.
Nigel Moffett has been in the Retail sector all his working life and lives in the heart of the Mourne Mountains in South Down made famous by Percy French. This is the HO of Irish Shopper. Nigel is responsible for sourcing new products and pricing these. Nigel also heads up our wholesale division. He welcomes customers suggestions for new Irish made and Irish designed products to add to www.irishshopper.com.
Trevor Mitchell has been involved in Retail for over thirty years and lives just outside Groomsport in North Down, 9 miles from Belfast. From his home he has a view of Belfast Lough and can watch the ships sailing in to Belfast and it is down this route the RMS Titanic sailed to start its ill fated maiden voyage from Southampton to New York. Trevor is responsible for updating the design of the Irish Shopper website along with the packing and despatch of our orders.
Student: Ryan Kinley
This is what Ryan thought of his Career Academy experience:
I first heard of the career academy whenever our IT class 1A was given a short presentation about what we would be doing if we were going to apply to the career academy. After being successful in my application I got the opportunity with the other students to go over to London where we attended an induction with students from all over the UK
With the programme we also needed to get a partner in business which is easier said than done as not many employers want to pay a student to help them, in the current economic climate, so therefore we had to explain we would be working for free. My first choice didn’t last too long as they never replied and I had to get another employer which Karen helped me find and I first met Nigel and Trevor in the campus for an induction with everyone else’s employers. From then, we decided to meet up every three weeks to keep track on tasks and work I had been given. Trevor then decided to meet up on a regular basis in the Canal court to do so.From the 28th of May to the 2nd July I was working with Nigel and Trevor which involved going to Belfast and Dublin regularly to go to trade shows to source new products and meet suppliers on a regular basis. Trevor and Nigel then decided to work from hotels across Northern Ireland to use the free WiFi and services and some of them to name are; Park inn avenue, Europa, Carrickdale, Beechlawn and Premier Inn hotels. The work I was involved in was primarily web based with getting new products onto their websites which is a total of 10. I was also involved photo shopping images for their websites for sales and prize draws.Overall I thoroughly enjoyed my work with the Career Academy as I now have 8 weeks work experience and I was asked to work on to help them out.
